StudiousNotes does not collect any data.
The app has no account, no server and no analytics. Reading, highlighting, notes and exports all work offline. The only connection the app makes is to Apple’s App Store, to show the upgrade’s price and check whether you’ve bought it. Buying or restoring the upgrade goes through the App Store too, under Apple’s own privacy policy. None of your books or notes are part of it. Links to this website open in Safari.
Your books, highlights, notes and handwriting are stored only in the app’s own storage on your iPad. None of them is sent to the developer or to anyone else. There is no third-party code in the app that could send anything either: no advertising, no crash-reporting service, no tracking of any kind, and nothing is loaded from the internet while you read.
What stays on your device
- The PDF and EPUB files you import.
- Your highlights, notes, tags and handwriting.
- Small settings, such as the ink colour you last wrote in.
Your highlights, notes, tags, handwriting and settings are included in your iPad’s own backup, if you have one. The PDF and EPUB files you import are kept out of that backup on purpose, so after restoring to a new iPad your notebooks are complete, but the books themselves need to be imported again. That backup belongs to you and goes wherever you have told Apple to put it; the developer has no access to it.
What leaves your device, and only when you ask
- Back up writes a single file containing your books and notes, and hands it to you to save wherever you choose.
- Export writes a notebook as a PDF or a Markdown file, the same way.
In both cases the file is given to you through the iPad’s own Files interface. It is not uploaded anywhere, and the app never sends one on its own.
Children
The app collects nothing from anyone, including children.
Deleting your data
Deleting the app removes everything it stored on your iPad. There is nothing held anywhere else, so there is nothing to request.
This website
This website keeps the same promise. It sets no cookies, runs no analytics and loads nothing from any other site: the fonts and images are served from here, and there is no JavaScript. It is hosted on Cloudflare Pages, which, like any web host, has to handle your IP address to deliver the page to you; the developer does not use it to track anyone.
Changes
If this policy ever changes, the date at the top of this page changes with it. Any version of the app that starts collecting data will say so here first.
